Heavy penalty for late payment

I’m seeking legal advice regarding a situation I’m dealing with a reputed law university.
My son is studying in a reputed law college. I made the fee payment which was delayed for 20 days. The college imposed 10k penalty and I have written a requesting letter to waive off the penalty which is too high 500/- per day.
Is it correct to impose penalties like local finance gundas
Well, everyone needs to follow the laws, whether it is University or any any other Institutuon, if fines or heavy penalities have been imposed, then, it is your right to ask the university to justify such imposition of heavy penalities by quoting law.
