Company wants to recover notice period amount for relieving letter

12-Feb-2025 (In Labour & Service Law)
I worked with an IT services company for 4+ years. After returning from maternity leave in June 2023, I continued until December 2023, then took extended leave until November 2024 due to my child's health. In December 2024, I resigned without serving the notice period, as my manager verbally confirmed there was no dependency on me. HR later mentioned I may need to pay for the notice period, and now, during final settlement, I’m being asked to pay 2 months' salary for the relieving letter.

Well, it seems that, your Ex Employer has been trying to extort money from you in the name of settlement, as you have been verbally informed by you then HR, that, there was no dependency upon you . If that was the case, then why they are telling you to pay you the Notice Period Amount!
