Dear Concern, please take note -
1. Employment of professional are governed by contract which they sign with the company which is generally known as 'employment contract'.
2. If your contract talks about retention bonus then they are well within their rights to release your bonus after the completion of 3 years.
3. However, retention bonus is something which one gets over to his salary. Its not that one's salary gets deducted to make retention bonus unless the contract says otherwise.
4. You can send them a legal notice asking for your dues. If they oblige it then good enough else you can drag them before the court for the same.

Every company has its own policy on retention bonus plus you will also have to check your appointment letter if it says anything related to that..Although it's illegal to keep the retention bonus by the company but without checking the policy of the company it would not be possible to comment whether you will be entitled for the same or not. Also as you have submitted your resignation letter the situation might be different. But again I suggest you to check the policy of your previous company on retention bonus...and if you are entitled then you can approach labor officer in your area under payment of wages act.
