SECTION 342 IPC - Indian Penal Code - Punishment for wrongful confinement

As per new Indian Criminal law, IPC Section 342 has been replaced with BNS Section 127 with effect from July 1, 2024.
(IPC section is included as a sub-section in BNS sans heading. Fine is increased from one thousand to five thousand rupees.)

Whoever wrongfully confines any person shall be punished with simple imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.



IPC 342 in Simple Words

Section 342 of the Indian Penal Code states that anyone who wrongfully confines a person can be punished with simple imprisonment for up to one year, or a fine of up to one thousand rupees, or both.
