Friend extended his stay in India on Indian Visa. How to deal with it?

Friend born in USA but is from Indian Origin. He came to India with American Passport and Indian Visa. His stay got extended by awful lot of time i.e. 15 years. Now How can my friend come out of this situation?
In order to provide more appropriate answer, I would need to know the facts in detail. However, your friend, an American citizen, should contact the "U.S. Citizen Services" at the nearest U.S. Consulate/Embassy in India. I hope he has a valid U.S. passport.
