withdrawal of jewellery from mother-in-law
12-Aug-2023 (In Family Law)
I got married in 2015. My wife got jewellery from her parents and my parents as gift. After my marriage we gave all the jewellery to my mother to keep it. My mother is now refusing to return the jewellery to my wife and says its a family tradition to keep it with mother in law. My wife wants her jewelry and mother only agrees to give the part received from her parents. Me and my wife, we want all the jewelry as we do not have good relations with my mother and feel that she may give all of it to my brother and her wife. Please help and suggest. We are Hindu.
If your mother is willing to give the jewellery given by your wife's mother to her than she is not with holding your wife's stridhan. Secondly, though the other jewellery given by your mother to your wife was a gift there is no gift deed relating to it. It was indeed her own jewellery which she gave and now she is refusing so legally you cannot force your mother to give the jewellery except those which are given by your wife's mother to her. if you want any further assistance then you call me.
