The marriage certificate you obtained provides you with a strong legal backing. While the absence of phere may raise questions about traditional adherence, the marriage will likely be considered valid in the eyes of the law if it was solemnized according to any customary practice and has been registered.
The fact that you have a marriage certificate makes your marriage legally valid in the eyes of the law. While some may argue about the lack of pheras from a traditional standpoint, the Hindu Marriage Act allows for flexibility based on customary practices. If your community’s customs do not mandate the Saptapadi, or if both parties agree that their marriage was solemnized properly, the marriage should be legally recognized.
However, there are certain legal grounds under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and general principles of contract law that can be used to challenge the validity of such a marriage by filing a Petition for Annulment or Declaration of Void Marriage on the following grounds:
Non-Performance of Essential Ceremonies
Fraud or Misrepresentation
Force or Coercion
Bigamy (Second Marriage During Subsistence of First Marriage)
Prohibited Degrees of Relationship
Mental Incompetency or Unsoundness of Mind
Minor Marriage (Underage Marriage)
Marriage Not Consummated
