Marriage called off on engagement, can I claim compensation
17-Nov-2023 (In Family Law)
legal question My sister engagement is over. But now boys family backed saying that they dont have interest in this marriage. But they also says that my parents compelled her for marriage.so only she accepts..means she dont have not 100% in her marriage...they says they have call recording for that...will my family get any compensation from their when we move legally??
There is no specific law as such which prohibits a person from breaching a promise to marry unless there is some contract between the parties.
Also just one sided promise to marry can't be called a contract and any intent to marry shown infront of third party also can't be called a contract.
In your case as the other party is saying that they have call recording wherein your sister has said that she has been compelled for marriage, it would be difficult to prove that any contract was forged and there has been any breach of contract.
