Hi, I have Anand Karaj Certificate for my Sikh wedding which happened in Kenya in 2013. Is this recognised as legal in India or do I need to register the marriage at court? Thank you.

It is adviseable to get this registered in Indian. As Court prefers marriage certificare more than customary marriages. Though if Anand Karaj marriage has saptpadi ritual done, then it is valid Hindu marriage. and Sikhism is considered denomination of Hinduism, though customs may differ slightly.

Court does not consider such documents as genuine. For that purpose, you have to register your marriage in India as well. The certificate is not binding upon the parties until and unless it is verified by the competent authority. In short, if you want to reside in India, it would be better to register marriage in India. Revert me. All the best.
