Wanting to file a civil suit - Ex-boyfriend cheating

15-Sep-2023 (In Divorce Law)
I want to file a civil suit against my ex-boyfriend. I live in Canada. He lived in the Netherlands. We met when I went to the Netherlands. I don't have any contact with my family. They were brutally abusive towards me. I wanted a family while he just wanted to have an experience of a "girlfriend". I wanted to marry him. We both moved to India. I left my job in Canada. He knew I had no family support. So he started treating me really badly. He started shouting at me. I was also financially dependent at him. He used to force me to return money. I couldn't handle, I came back to Canada and within 1 month I got to know that he had committed to marry someone else. He refused to apologize to me. I want to file a civil suit.

Hi, Going by the limited information provided by you, it is essential to send him a legal notice telling him the wrong done against you. For better understanding of the matter and advising properly, it is advised to have a meeting virtually as you are in Canada.

The law is amply clear that money or property acquired by a female 'for herself' in any manner, is by law, her absolute property. However, the facts appearing in your case show that you were given maintenance which was returned by you under coercion. There could arise too many academic questions as to the kind of property that is, but practically, one may not have even need to dive too deep into it. In India, there are myriad laws regarding maintenance, cruelty, divorce etc. and you only neee to consult a lawyer with relevant details of your case for choosing the proper litigation, and before a proper forum.
