I can understand how deeply hurt and depressed you are feeling after this betrayal. Please know that you are not alone in this. Right now your mental health is most important. Try to confide in a trusted friend or family member and do seek professional counselling support, it will help you heal. Legally, since there is no valid marriage, divorce is not an option, but if he misled you with false promises of marriage, you may explore a legal complaint for cheating. First, take care of yourself, and then we can discuss the legal steps at your pace.

In this situation it's better to move on. one cannot compel another person to get married. I advise you to be positive, if the family does not agree and the person will not go against the decision of his family. In this situation it's better to move forward.

Legally, in India, marriage requires mutual consent and compliance with the applicable personal laws (e.g., Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 for Hindus). Applying sindoor or claiming someone as a wife without a formal marriage registered under law (e.g., under Section 7 or 8) has no legal standing unless a valid ceremony occurred with witnesses and registration. If he or his family are pressuring or misleading you, this could potentially be addressed as emotional manipulation or misrepresentation, though proving it requires evidence like messages or witnesses. The sindoor application might be a cultural gesture or an attempt to confuse, but it doesn’t constitute a marriage without legal formalities.

You can anytime send him a legal notice regarding your grievances and warn him to marry you or face legal action. And if you wish to go legal then you can also file a complaint in writing mentioning all the details and address the same to the police station according to your jurisdiction.
