there r 2 kinds of divorce, mutual and contested. if your partner is ready for divorce then u both can proceed mutually. which is very simple and easier. in case if your partner is not ready for divorce then you need to file for contested divorce taking some grounds for which you wish to take a divorce. but it is time consuming and lengthy process.

It depends on whether you are going for divorce by mutual consent or it is a contested Divorce. If one party is ready and the other is not ready for divorce, the first step is to give the other party a notice for divorce and then file a case in family court. If both parties are ready then divorce will be granted within six months
