What does it mean by put up for arguments under Section 156(3) Cr.P.C. ?

you or someone else must have filed an application/ petition under section 156 (3) of criminal procedure code for a direction from magistrate to police to file an fir against someone. so such an application under section 156 (3) has been put up for arguments wherein the magistrate will hear the arguments of the complainant, state and the accused, if he's represented, and pass a direction whether the application / petition ought to be allowed.
