How can one get contested divorce if wife not ready to give divorce ?

My friend's wife is staying at her maternal home with her daughter from 10 plus years n in no marital relations with him.She doesnt appear in court n if comes thn not ready for divorce.My friend stays on rent with his old mother n nobdy to luk aftr her,yet keeps in touch with his daughter n luks after her requirements whenever possible.She changes her mind after cmng to court,had bit epilepsy problem also.She has ruined his life n he's unable to go for any process due to her weird behaviour.So wht can be done?Is there any other way out?

He can also intimate her by sending legal notice so that she can avail a chance to resolve the dispute amicably.
