False marriage promise, Breach of Trust and Deceitful Inducement

11-Mar-2026 (In Divorce Law)
In January 2023, the guy gave a "Marriage Surety" to me, confirming our families were "sorted." Based solely on this 17-year family bond and his commitment to marry me, I gave him my absolute trust and my dignity and visited many places. We were intimate only because he formally pledged his life to mine. While claiming "work stress" to avoid me, Varun was leading a double life. His ID-Verified Bumble profile shows he was active on dating apps in the same month he gave the marriage promise.

If a man establishes a physical relationship with a woman on the false promise of marriage and it is proved that from the beginning he never intended to marry, it can amount to cheating and rape under Section 376 and 417 of the Indian Penal Code. Evidence such as dating app activity during the same period may help to show lack of genuine intention. The aggrieved woman can file a criminal complaint before the police. The exact applicability of charges will depend on the facts and evidence in the case.

From the facts you have mentioned, it appears that the relationship and physical intimacy occurred based on a clear promise of marriage. Under Indian law, if a person establishes a physical relationship with a woman by making a false promise of marriage from the very beginning, it may amount to cheating and can also attract provisions related to sexual exploitation under the Indian Penal Code. If you have evidence such as messages, emails, photographs, travel details, or proof of his active dating profile during the same period when he assured you of marriage, these materials can strengthen your case. The Bumble profile and any conversations showing that he was maintaining a double life may also be relevant evidence. You may consider filing a police complaint for cheating and for physical relations obtained under a false promise of marriage. Additionally, you may also explore legal remedies for mental harassment and seek appropriate compensation through court. Before taking any step, it is advisable to preserve all digital evidence and consult a local advocate with complete documents so that the exact legal strategy can be planned based on the facts of your case.

If a person establishes a physical relationship on the false promise of marriage without any real intention to marry from the beginning, it may amount to cheating or other criminal offences under law. If you have evidence such as the “Marriage Surety,” chats, or proof of his activity on dating apps, you may file a complaint with the local police. It is advisable to consult a lawyer to take appropriate legal action based on the available evidence.

I understand that this situation is deeply distressing and involves a serious breach of trust. From what you have described, if a person makes a false promise of marriage with no intention to fulfill it and establishes a physical relationship on that basis, it can attract legal consequences under criminal law. In your case, the “marriage surety,” long-standing family connection, and his conduct of simultaneously being active on dating platforms may help establish that the promise was not genuine from the beginning. This becomes important in determining whether there was deception or misrepresentation involved. You may have the option to initiate appropriate legal action, including filing a criminal complaint for cheating and other relevant offences, depending on the complete facts and evidence available. Proper documentation such as chats, proof of promise, travel records, and dating app activity will be crucial in strengthening your case. Yes, I can assist you in this matter. I have been dealing with such matrimonial, relationship, cheating, false promise of marriage and criminal complaint matters since 2004. If the promise to marry was dishonest from the beginning and intimacy was obtained by deception, it may attract serious criminal consequences. His dating app activity, written assurance, chats and conduct must be legally examined. Connect for thorough guidance.
