Hi, I can well understand your concern from the query raised. If you have suffered physical abuse, it is essential to visit a government hospital or a registered medical practitioner immediately. Request a Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) which clearly documents the nature and extent of the injuries. This certificate should ideally include: • The date and time of examination • A brief history as narrated by you (mentioning physical assault by husband) • Clinical findings (bruises, swelling, cuts, etc.) • Doctor’s opinion on the type of injury and whether it could be due to assault This medical document can be used to support your complaint in a police station under domestic violence provisions, and also as corroborative evidence in divorce proceedings on the ground of cruelty. If there are psychological effects (such as anxiety or depression), you may also consult a psychiatrist or psychologist and obtain a certificate detailing the mental trauma endured. If you need further help, you may consult a legal expert or file a complaint under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Dear Client, 1. You need a Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) from a government hospital or doctor, stating the injuries caused by domestic violence. This can be used as evidence for filing divorce on grounds of cruelty. 2.Consult an advocate to discuss your case in brief. 3.You may schedule an appointment regarding your case by phone or email at your convenience.
