Divorce in California vs India. How to proceed on it ?

I and Rahul (my husband) got married in New Delhi, India on Dec 10’2010. Rahul and I have been living in Fremont, california since then (last 6 years). He filed for divorce on Dec 19’2016 in california but didn’t tell me anything about it yet. I traveled to India with our 2 year old daughter due to family emergency on Dec 20’2016. Rahul has not servered me yet and he is pressurizing me to come back to USA with our daughter. I am still in India and want to find out what is best for me in my situation. We have common property, joint bank accounts in USA. He is working on H1 B over there and I was working on H4 (dependent visa) over there. So once the marriage dissolves, I assume, I will not be able to work in California since i am on dependent visa and also I may loose my child as well? Should I wait to file for divorce untill he serves me? My daughter is American, what will be better for me in order to have her custody with me in India?
