Demanding dowry and subjecting a woman to cruelty amounts to a punishable offence under Section 3 & 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and also under BNS/IPC provisions (Section 85, 86 of BNS – cruelty by husband/relatives). In addition, you can file a complaint under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 seeking protection orders, residence rights, maintenance, and compensation. You should immediately lodge an FIR at the nearest police station or approach the Magistrate u/s 12 DV Act for interim relief. Keep all evidence like messages, medical records, witness statements, or financial transactions. Court can also order restraining orders to prevent further harassment. Timely legal action will ensure both criminal prosecution and civil protection for you.
