The requirement for your personal appearance depends on the stage of the case and the directions of the court. In both a DV case and a contested divorce under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act, your advocate can usually handle routine dates, but your personal presence may be required for important stages such as appearance, mediation/counselling, recording of evidence, cross-examination, or if specifically directed by the court. If you are regularly represented by your advocate and comply with court orders, including maintenance, courts generally do not issue a warrant on the first default. Normally, the court first directs your advocate to ensure your presence on the next date, unless there is repeated or deliberate non-appearance.

If I were you I’d sit with my advocate and make them explain these points, it’s not that easy and also not that complicated .. Firstly only 13(A) will get you an order for judicial separation and not divorce under Hindu Marriage Act.. there is no such rule like being present minimum or maximum times, depends on your case stage and if it requires your presence or not.. you can simply file for exemption in case you’re a respondent / accused ..

If a court has directed you to be present then you have to be present before the hon'ble court, but sometimes it depends upon the stage of matter accordingly the court may allow your non appearance but you are bound to follow the court order.
