how to recover goods seized by custom authorities

Goods seized by the custom authorities while travelling to India. What action can we take?
Generally when the goods the are taken by the customs a detention report is always furnished to the person whos goods are being seized.
For recovery of goods we have to request formally to the adjudicating authorities of the airport for the release of goods.
