Repeated Suicide Threats from GF

14-Jun-2026 (In Criminal Law)
I dated a girl for about 3 months. From the beginning, I told her I needed time before deciding on a serious relationship. Recently she started sending suicide threats, rooftop photos, and messages saying she would kill herself if I stopped talking to her. I informed her family and shared evidence. She later left home, and her family repeatedly asked me to contact her. I no longer want to continue the relationship. What legal steps can I take to protect myself ?

Dealing with coercion and threats of self-harm is deeply stressful, but your priority must be protecting your safety and establishing clear boundaries. Because this involves severe emotional manipulation and potential legal risk, a proactive approach is essential. First, issue a final, unambiguous written message stating that you are ending all contact and do not want her or her family to reach out to you again. Once sent, cease all responses entirely; do not engage, as any reply can prolong the behavior. Second, meticulously document every interaction. Save all text messages, call logs, emails, rooftop photos, and suicide threats in secure, multiple locations, including cloud storage and physical printouts. Do not delete anything, as this serves as vital evidence. Third, protect yourself legally and physically by filing a formal police complaint or police report details of the harassment and extortionate threats. This establishes an official paper trail, protecting you from false accusations if she goes missing or harms herself. Finally, consider seeking a restraining order or cease-and-desist letter through a legal professional to legally bar her from contacting you thanks

If the facts are as stated, the you should take preventive legal steps immediately, while also acting responsibly regarding the girl’s safety. You should first preserve all evidence, including chats, call records, screenshots of suicide threats, rooftop photographs, messages demanding continued contact, and communications with her family. Such records may become crucial in defending against any future allegations. Secondly, you should send a clear and polite written communication stating that you doesn’t wish to continue the relationship and requesting that no further contact be made. The communication should avoid abusive language, threats, or provocative remarks. Thirdly, considering the repeated suicide threats and the fact that she has left home, you may submit a written information/representation to the local police station having jurisdiction over your residence and her last known location. The representation should narrate the facts chronologically, annex copies of the threatening messages, and specifically mention that you had already informed her family. This creates a contemporaneous record demonstrating his bona fides and concern for her safety. If the girl or her relatives continue harassment, coercion, intimidation, or repeated unwanted contact, you may seek protection under the provisions relating to criminal intimidation, stalking, and harassment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, by lodging an appropriate complaint. You should not conceal information, destroy evidence, make false promises of marriage, or continue contact merely out of fear of threats. You should also avoid meeting her alone. In case any criminal complaint is subsequently lodged against you, the preserved evidence and prior police intimation may constitute important material for seeking legal protection, including anticipatory bail and quashing of false proceedings, if warranted by the facts.

file an application before your concerned police station and don't delete any chat or call list or photos which you think can be considered as a proof to prove your version whenever required and if no action has been taken by the police on your application then approach court, consult any lawyer immediately, feel free to contact.

you should inform the concerned police station with written information describing the whole facts of the situation along with the evidence available to you. By the way of giving such information you can save yourself.
