Ran away from police barricade

12-Mar-2026 (In Criminal Law)
I was drunk and gave lift to someone and i saw barricade and i turned my car and tried to run the from the police constable because i was drunk and tremble. The police constable came in front of me and i ran from there. He was wearing camera and he must have recorded. I did not hit anybody and they also not chased me. What can be done by them now and should i be worried.

Please try not to panic, as being anxious will not help you resolve the situation. Since you were not chased and no immediate accident occurred, it is possible that no FIR has been registered yet. However, the body-worn camera footage could be used to issue a challan for dangerous driving or evading a public servant. You should remain calm and wait for any official notice rather than worrying prematurely. If a notice is received, a seasoned lawyer can help you explain the situational stress to the authorities and handle the matter through a simple compounding process or a fine in court.

Generally, there is nothing to worry about, but as you said, there was a body cam, then the scenario changes, and you can be accused of rash driving as well as for the endangerment of the very constable who was present there.

yes you should be worried because there can be a challan against you and even the police may impound the vehicle later. Though no criminal action was done but the police will file a charge against the owner of the car. if you are the owner then there might be case against you for disturbing the law and order

You can post a concise professional answer like this on LawRato: --- If you did not hit anyone and the police did not stop or chase you at that time, in many cases no immediate action is taken unless your vehicle number was clearly captured on the body camera or CCTV. However, attempting to avoid a police barricade and driving after consuming alcohol can attract provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, especially for drunken driving, and also disobedience of a public servant’s order under Indian Penal Code Section 188. If the vehicle number was recorded, the police may: • Issue an e-challan • Send a notice to the registered owner • In some situations call the owner to the police station for clarification. If you have not received any notice or challan so far, there is generally no immediate reason to panic. You should monitor whether any challan is issued against your vehicle and comply with it if received. For the future, avoid driving after consuming alcohol as it can lead to serious legal consequences and safety risks.
