My ex is harassing me for cash she gave me 10 years back

My ex has started demanding me money she gave me willingly 10 years back when we were in a relationship. All the transactions were in cash.The money she gave me was not her, but she got from people not known to me. No the people who gave money to her is asking back and she is harassing me for the same. We are not in touch since 10 years.I’m not in a situation to return money. She gave all the money in cash. We are not in touch since 10 years. Can the person she took money from file a case on me?

Legally, the person who gave money to your ex cannot directly file a case against you unless they prove a direct legal transaction with you. Your ex might claim repayment under Section 70 of the Indian Contract Act of 1872, which is an obligation to repay unjust enrichment, but she must provide substantial evidence of the transaction. As the money was given willingly and without written agreements, liability is difficult to establish.
