Money lost in job fraud if possible Recovery of money

19-Feb-2026 (In Criminal Law)
In March 2025, I was introduced to a person through a friend who claimed to arrange job openings. He demanded ₹50,000 and later ₹10,000, promising employment. Payments were made via UPI. He only responded through WhatsApp calls, avoiding written confirmation, and has not returned the money despite repeated verbal promises. What legal steps can I take to recover my money at minimal cost?

If a person has taken money promising employment and later fails to return it, such conduct amounts to cheating. You may first send a legal notice demanding repayment of the amount within a specified time. sometimes the formal notice itself leads to settlement without further litigation. If the person still does not return the money, you can file a police complaint for cheating and also provide available evidence such as WhatsApp chats, call recordings, and payment proof. You may also file a civil recovery suit for the amount. However, sending a legal notice and attempting settlement would be the first step to recover the money with minimal litigation cost.
