Inconsistency in Witness Marking Order

23-Dec-2025 (In Criminal Law)
During examintion-in-chief witnesses are marked CW2, CW3, CW4. But in the order sheet complainant was referred as PW1 and witness as CW1, CW2, CW3. Should I ask the court to refer the witness by their names instead of numbers. During cross-examination court marked witness as CW1 and CW2 instead of CW2 and CW3. Will that cause any issue going forward in the trial. Can I rectify it in the next cross-examination hearing?

It’s all the same don’t need to worry . P stands for plaintiff and C stands for complainant. Everything has a same meaning. Usually the term PW1 is used in civil cases . End of the day all has the same meaning.

Dear Sir, No, by itself it does not. What matters is: The identity of the witness, and The substance of evidence recorded If examination-in-chief and cross-examination clearly relate to the same person, a wrong CW/PW number is treated as a clerical or typographical error.
