how to deal if someone defame my name

25-Jul-2025 (In Criminal Law)
Someone falsely defamed me in my office. As I am a teacher, maintaining the highest level of professionalism, one of my students is defaming me and has written an email to the authority stating that I am having an illicit relationship with a student. This happened because I caught him while cheating in an exam. To take revenge, he started spreading rumors among other staffs and finally defamed me by writting an email to authority. suggest me the correct procedure to handle it.

Defamation is a very serious act which attracts both criminal as well as civil consequences. If the particular person is defaming you by spreading rumors against you, then you can file a defamation suit against that person which is in the nature of a civil case. You can also file a criminal case against the person trying to malign your character in front of everyone and that will attract criminal consequences which includes jail terms.
