Hello Ma’am, If he had a physical relationship with you on a false promise of marriage and later refused, you can file a criminal complaint if it is proved that he never intended to marry you from the beginning and only used the promise to exploit you. Since you lived together for 6 months like husband and wife, you may also claim protection, maintenance, and compensation under the Domestic Violence Act if the relationship qualifies as “in the nature of marriage.” Preserve all chats, photos, and proof of staying together. Evidence is crucial. Regards, Florence Reddy.

Where a woman consents to a physical relationship on the basis of a promise of marriage and it is later shown that such promise was false from the very inception and made only to obtain her consent, the consent is vitiated by misconception of fact and the act may amount to an offence; however, if the relationship was consensual between adults, they lived together for several months, and the promise of marriage failed subsequently due to differences or change of circumstances, it would amount merely to a breach of promise or cheating
