Yes, using forged documents such as a fake school transfer certificate (TC) to obtain a delayed birth certificate from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is a criminal offense under Indian law. As per the Indian Penal Code (IPC -BNS): Section 465 IPC - 336 BNS – Forgery: Punishable with imprisonment up to 2 to 7 years or fine or both. Section 471 IPC - 340 BNS – Using forged document as genuine: Same punishment as for forgery. If this forgery is detected, the birth certificate may be cancelled, and the person may face criminal prosecution. It’s advised to take legal help immediately to avoid further complications or to apply for rectification legally if done unknowingly.
