Family member physically and mentally abuses other want to take action

Hello Sir, I am interested in knowing what legal actions can be restored if a family member is a drug addict and mental unstable, and resorts to extreme phycially and mentally abuse towards the rest of the family members. An FIR has already been filed against the concerned person. Thank you for your inputs.
You can resort to the Domestic Violence act by filing an application directly to the Magistrate or through the social welfare officer. Filing an FIR before the police will not serve your purpose unless the concerned person has physically harmed any of you. Mental cruelty is only defined for women in marriage not for other persons in IPC. And police cannot take congnizance in DV case
