False allegations of dog bite cae to defame me

20-Jul-2025 (In Criminal Law)
I was returning home with my two pet dogs via the lift in our residential building. As per usual practice, my dogs were leashed and under my control. The Complainant entered the lift without prior notice or request, despite knowing that pets were inside. Upon her sudden entry, one of my dogs barked and jumped in reaction, which is a natural behavior when encountering unfamiliar individuals. I also told her that I was not even aware she entered the lift at her own risk. My dog did not bite her.

Based on the information provided, you are unlikely to face criminal liability since your dogs were leashed, under control, and did not bite the complainant. The complainant's unannounced entry into the lift, despite knowing pets were present, may be considered a contributing factor. Barking and jumping are natural dog behaviors when encountering unfamiliar individuals, and you warned her of the risk. However, civil liability (e.g., for distress or fear) could still arise depending on local laws and the complainant's claims.
