Could hotel confine it's guest if he is unable to make payment

Sir, a hotel has confined one of my friend in hotel room from 8-10 days because he is unable to make the payment. The hotel authority has kept him in his room and not allowing him to go out. He became ill but then also he is not allowed to go out. Sir is it legal? If not please suggest me the sections which it is violating and sir which type of lawyer should I hire for him for his protection.
Confinement of any person is illegal under law and also punishable under Indian penal code 1860. There are many remedies available for your friend and you can also file a writ petition under high court if the hotel is nt allowing him to go out.. for better solution do contact with complete details...

The hotel authorities cannot legally confine your friend for any purpose.
This tantamounts to wrongful confinement primarily and other allied offences depending on what all happened with your friend.
There are a number of remedies available to you but foremost, you must report the matter to police. Rightly or wrongly, no person can confine any other person for any reason

Hotel cannot confine person. Detention is illegal despite that there is non-payment of their legally entitled payments....
Please register police complaint against the Hotel for illegal confinement.
The legal option which Hotel should have taken is/was to recover the amount by filing a recovery suit against ur friend.
