Caught shoplifting - Prospects and next steps

19-Feb-2023 (In Criminal Law)
Hello, My friend got caught shoplifting merchandise worth 2300 rupees. When he was caught they made him pay for the things he was going to shoplift, and he got to keep the merchandise too after he had paid for them. Then they forced him to sign a document admitting that he attempted to steal and is liable to legal action being taken against him. My question is, how big is the chance they will take this to the police and actually take legal action? And if they do, what are the next steps to take?

Well, if they want to file a case now by registering a FIR , Police will not entertain it as your friend had already purchased the shoplift material & as such he rectified the mistake he did or the wrong he committed.
