can we beat police in self defence if I get physically assaulted ?

The law and order in Kolkata is deteriorating day by day and the Kolkata Police are responsible for this. If any police officer physically assualts physically assaults me can I hit back with equal force in self defence.
yes, definitely you can. but then, the police officer will file a complaint against you that you hit an on duty police officer..... it is a crime. in the courtroom you can't prove that the police officer was physically assaulted you first...
