Can I Pre-pone the date of hearing in High Court

My Inlaws has filed Writ Petition in High Court for transfer of case to CID.How ever the Writ Petition is going to be dismissed by next hearing .But my inlaws lawyer has extended the date of hearing to next year 2017.So that the existing Coram can be changed & new judge can be there for their hearing purpose. Please let me know:- 1) Can we pre-poned the date of hearing ,so that the court hearing is carried out in front of existing judge only.If yes than how ? 2) Can i file for case discharge in session court ,even though writ petition is being there in high court. pls help...
