Can i file a defamation against my previous employer

Tell me the procedure of doing MAAN-HANI case against my previous employer who has included my name in some case with false allegations. Now its 6+ years passed, Police come up with A Final Report and 1 hearing is done but the complainiant (previous employer) didnt appear for at the court. Due to this FIR i have gone through lot of difficulties and issues. can I do maan hani ?
Section 499 of IPC reads Defamation if you think that the previous company has implicated false allegations against you due to which your reputation and name was at stake and had to suffer you can file a case against them. But before doing so.. kindly read section 499 and it's explanation you should fall under it which will help you in filing the case. If the opposite party is not appearing it's the duty of the court to issue warrants against them.
