Can complain of attempt to murder and harassment be registered

Hello My wife attempted suicide and taken to hospital got recovered there. During admit into hospital police registered medical legal case and she given a statement as Harrasment was cause for suicide. After 2.5 months she went to her home town and registered a complaint of attempt murder and harrasment and dowry. Can this way complaints could be registered.?
usually there is not prenom in registering complainant and validity and maintainability of complaint will be registered only after registering the complaint and during the course of investigation and please be advised
