Blackmail and sharing pictures

09-Aug-2023 (In Criminal Law)
My friend blackmailed me saying she will send personal pictures of me which I wouldn't like my boyfriend to see , to my boyfriend after a fight. Just because I didn't say sorry. I thought she is just blackmailing me and wouldn't do it. But she ended up sharing my personal pictures. I wanna take action against her and also ensure she doesn't disclose my any personal Information of mine to anyone after this or blackmails me using it. What case should I file and upto how much I will end up spending for the case approximately if I hire a lawyer?

Hello,
You can definitely file a police complaint first where you can clearly state whatever has happened between you both. Approach a lady constable in your local jurisdiction of the police station and file a case against your friend and if she is asking money for the same, you can state them that blackmailing alongwith the extortion. And if it’s mentally affecting you please mention it clearly to the officer.

You should file a criminal case for stalkng, voyurism etc under IPC and also under Information Technology Act.
You can lodge the FIR yourself by approaching the nearest police station. You do not need a lawyer for that.
After the Police takes cognizance and investigates the case its will file an Investigation Reports with Magistrate and a Chargesheet will be filed.
You would not need a lawyer for that either as the Public Prosecutor would be leading the case. You might need some advisory/consultative help with trial. But that is different.
You can sue the person for damages for defamation and loss of reputation also.
