If the lady has defamed your wife, the case can be instituted against her. We can initiate both civil as well as criminal proceedings against her. The case can't be filed or clubbed together with the case proceedings going against her husband. But we can proceed in a new civil as well as criminal case.

First of all rather than going legally you should serve her a legal notice and in that notice you can write that either stop all these harassments or face legal action which will be at your own risk. Section 509, IPC makes 'Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman' punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, and also with fine.
