Music License For A Birthday Party

16-Feb-2025 (In Trademark & Copyright Law)
We wish to have a birthday party where 100 guests will attend (family and friends). Live perofmacce will be done by singers and musicians. Old hindi songs will be played. Do we need a PPL and any other music license for this event?

If your birthday party is a private family event with no tickets, no public entry, and not for profit, then you do not need a music license like PPL or IPRS, even if there is live singing or old Hindi songs played. Just make sure the event is not publicly advertised and check with the venue if they already have any music license in place.
