Copyright in paintings where to find the details
09-Jun-2023 (In Trademark & Copyright Law)
Hi. Are the paintings of Da Vinci and Michelangelo protected under copyright law? Or are they a part of the public domain?
Artistic work including paintings are protected under Copyright Law. Copyright in an artistic work survives the life of the creator +60 years upon their death after which it enters the public domain. Therefore, the paintings by both these artists are now part of the public domain. Hope this answers your query.
Any photograph of the paintings of Da Vinci and Michelango in Public Domain are not protected under copyright law.
These paintings were under the copyright law in the 19th Century and were kept in Italy.

There is a list of paintings that are out for public use. They might be reproduced. However, since the query is not specific, it cannot be specifically told that which of the paintings are free for public use.
Copyright protection is available for certain time-period (60-70 years generally). Therefore, old legendary paintings would be in public domain. As far as I am aware, there are several copies/remakes of old paintings/architectural work.
They are not protected under copyright law and are a part of public domain.

Since drawing has been widely published over the last two centuries,
it is "public domain," which means that it isn't copyrighted, and you
don't need anyone's permission to copy it or use it.
