What to do if damages are claimed after four months of incident

i am staying as a tenant in a society. i have kept plant in balcony. there was a crack due to which the water went outside with little soil. the color outside wall is spoiled due to the soil. this incidant happened 4months back. that time no one told me anything about damages. now the petson inchatge is syating i have pay the damages since the color has spoiled. i want to know when can they ask the money for damages. when it was not stated earlier after 5 months should i be held responsible. please clarify ...urgent...also the soicety person incharge on phone is threating me about launching poilce complaint. the persin incharge is not secretary nor chairman.. what to do...
An aggrieved person can claim for civil damages only whenever he first noticed the damage. There is no criminal offence involve here, hence he cannot lodge a police complaint. For any further clarification kindly book a consultancy call.

There is in no way they can file any police complaints on this issue, as there is crime that has occurred here, however they can file damages suit, you may have to pay only once they file a suit in court and the award for damages have been passed by the court till then let him do whatever they have to, you don't have to worry or pay anything
