Society members harassing my dad for being chairman

08-Oct-2025 (In Civil Law)
Society elected him as chairman 15 years ago even though my mom is the flat owner. They don’t reside in that flat, it’s given on rent. My mom had given my dad the power of attorney. The place is in talks for redevelopment. The deed conveyance has been done. Society members are calling it void as my dad can’t be the chairman as he isn’t the flat owner and calling him a fraudster. He is unwell and they society members are harassing my mom. Society says they didn’t know my dad wasn’t a flat owner.

Keep a record of every incident - audio, video, messages, or witness statements. Evidence is key. Step 2: Send a Written Complaint Write to the Managing Committee (or Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies) describing the harassment. Mention dates and names. Request immediate action under the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960 (if you're in Maharashtra). â—† Step 3: Police Protection (if needed) If the harassment is severe (threats, abuse, defamation, obstruction), lodge a non-cognizable (NC) complaint or FIR at the local police station under Sections 503 (criminal intimidation), 506 (threat), or 509 (insul he IPC.
