To apply for a passport, the mother’s name must be consistent across your documents, especially Aadhaar/PAN and your educational certificates. In your case, the difference is minor — “Deljeet Kaur” vs. “Diljeet Kaur” — and such spelling discrepancies are quite common. You can correct this without much difficulty. You have two options, and either one is acceptable to the Passport Office: 1. Update your educational records to match Aadhaar/PAN You can request your school board (CBSE/State Board) to correct your mother’s name in your 10th and 12th marksheets. Boards routinely make such corrections on the basis of: • Your mother’s Aadhaar and PAN, • Your own Aadhaar, and • An affidavit confirming the correct spelling. Once corrected, your marksheets will match “Deljeet Kaur,” and the passport will be issued easily. 2. Keep your educational records as they are and correct the name through an affidavit + Gazette If you cannot or do not want to change your marksheets, you may still apply for a passport by preparing: • A joint affidavit by you and your mother stating that “Deljeet Kaur” and “Diljeet Kaur” refer to the same person, and • A Gazette notification confirming the correct name “Deljeet Kaur.” The Passport Office accepts Gazette + affidavit as valid proof for minor spelling variations, and your passport can then be issued with “Deljeet Kaur” as the mother’s name. Since you want a non-ECR passport, consistency of documents is important, but this spelling mismatch can be resolved through either method above. Most applicants choose the Gazette route because it is faster. If you want, I can guide you step-by-step on drafting the affidavit and applying for Gazette publication.

You can safely apply for your passport with your mother’s name as Deljeet Kaur, because the passport office accepts any valid ID proof of the parent—such as Aadhaar, PAN, or the Naturalisation Certificate—which already show her name as Deljeet Kaur. The different spelling in your 10th and 12th marksheets does not create any problem, as school certificates are not used to verify a parent’s name. Simply enter “Deljeet Kaur” in the passport application form and, if asked at the Passport Seva Kendra, provide a brief written declaration stating that “Deljeet Kaur” and “Diljeet Kaur” refer to the same person, your mother. This is the standard and accepted solution.

You need to get it published in the official gazette notification and that would suffice the purpose. It will be a declaration that both the names belong to one person only that is your mother. Any good advocate will help you with this. Good luck!

You can apply for a passport with your mother’s name as “Deljeet Kaur”; the key is to align as many supporting documents as possible to that spelling and be ready with an affidavit explaining the discrepancy. What you should do Keep Aadhaar, PAN and naturalisation certificate with the spelling “Deljeet Kaur” as your primary proof, since multiple government IDs already show this version. In the passport form, fill your mother’s name exactly as “Deljeet Kaur” and carry your 10th and 12th marksheets along with these IDs; if the Passport Officer questions the “Diljeet” spelling, explain that it is a clerical spelling error. Prepare a notarised “one and the same person” affidavit stating that “Deljeet Kaur” and “Diljeet Kaur” refer to the same person, your mother, and attach copies of all documents with both spellings. Such affidavits are routinely accepted to resolve minor spelling variations. For Non-ECR status, ensure you carry your matriculation (10th pass) or higher educational certificate as proof, along with the usual ID, address and date-of-birth documents required for a Non-ECR passport. If, despite the affidavit, the Passport Seva Kendra insists on uniform spelling everywhere, update the spelling in your educational records prospectively or obtain an order/letter from the education board acknowledging the spelling error, and then re-visit with that clarification. In practice, such minor spelling differences (Deljeet/Diljeet) are often treated as variations of the same name and not a full “name change”, so Gazette publication is generally not insisted upon, but you should still follow whatever specific direction the Passport Officer mentions in your appointment or verification
