Query Regarding Legal Implications of Retaining Company Laptop Pending

I worked in a company for 15 days couldn't continue working because of health issues I was using company asset like laptop and sim I told the company that I will return the laptop but kindly give me a confirmation that my salary for the given days will be given to me that are saying first return the laptop then the salary confirmation will be given...I said I need the written confirmation that after returning the asset I shall be proya written confirmation over email which they are denying..what should I do over here I don't want to return the laptop till the time I have written confirmation over email.....what could be the repucussions of not returning the laptop

they are not returning the laptop all the tome send them a legal notice after returning the laptop if the laptop is not returned you can file a complaint for possession of goods then your I have written communication
