In Karnataka, the term "P number" in land records most commonly refers to a "Pending number" that is temporarily assigned to a parcel of land during the Phodi processwhich is the official subdivision of a survey number when land is being split among heirs, buyers, or co-owners. It basically acts as a placeholder until the final sub-survey numbers are issued.
However, in broader property documentation, "P" can also stand for Parcel Number or Property ID, depending on the state and context especially for property tax records or urban land identification.
So yeah, in Karnataka's land revenue context:
P = Pending (in Phodi stage).
In general tax/property records:
P = Parcel/Property number.
Always check the local land office or Bhoomi portal for clarification based on your district.

The following methods may be adopted to protect your p.number land. The government enacted the Assigned Lands Regularisation Act to give ownership rights of lands recorded with a dot. Land assigned, alienated or title transfer would be recorded and only those producing proof of occupation for 12 years would be recorded in the RSR, he said. Assigned lands Assigned lands which did not have the name of the owner or pattadar, were enrolled in the British regime with a dot sign in the Re-Settlement Registers (RSR) in nine districts – Anantapur, Kurnool, Kadapa, Chittoor, Prakasam, Nellore, Guntur, Krishna and East Godavari districts – the Deputy Chief Minister said. They could not be construed as government lands, but 5,558 acres was alienated to various institutions and individuals earlier.

In your case,as you explained if that issue is existing,i want to say here clearly that offcourse he may be powerful police officer but " he is not above the law " without delaying you have to file a suit.

Hi sir /madam, If you are the right owner then you can file a eviction suit before the civil court against the encroachment of your property. You can also get the injunction order from the same. Thank you.
