Organization asking do deposit original aadhar and PAN card

Hi, I am renting some electronics from a renting company, but the company has asked me to deposit my original identity documents for assurance. They are accepting only Original documents and not photocopies. Is it safe and legal.
Well, if they are not accepting Photocopies of your Identity Proof and Address Proof, then it will be very risky for you to submit Original Documents to that particular Electronic Company to opt for Electronic goods on rental basis
