NRI's eligible for crop-loss money under the MH Gov. relief scheme

18-Nov-2025 (In Civil Law)
I am an NRI, I own agricultural land in Maharashtra. My parents cultivate the land on my behalf. The land is registered in my name (7/12 extract). Maharashtra Government has announced a compensation / relief package for farmers affected by excess rainfall during Jun-Sep 25. Legal Questions,1. As an NRI landowner, am I legally eligible to receive crop-loss compensation under the MH gov. relief scheme? 2. If I apply and receive the compensation, could there be any legal issues or disputes later?

Receiving compensation is legally safe provided the revenue record matches the ground reality. Problems arise only if (i) land is lying fallow, (ii) there is no crop-loss verification by the revenue authorities, (iii) a third party claims tenancy rights, or (iv) any person alleges that you are an absentee owner misusing the scheme. You are legally eligible as long as agricultural activity is proved on record and your parents are recorded as “Actual Cultivators” or “Persons in Possession” if relevant, If cultivation is being done under your authority and the local revenue records reflect it, crop loss is verified through the Panchanama (Panchnama) / Talathi / Circle Officer inspection, the compensation will be released without objection.

Yes, you are eligible, provided your name appears as the recorded landholder in the 7/12 extract. Maharashtra Government’s crop-loss compensation (excess rainfall relief) is meant for the actual cultivator or the recorded landowner. Since your parents cultivate the land on your behalf, and the land is legally registered in your name, you can apply for the relief without any restriction merely because you are an NRI.
