Name change for CBSE marksheet for SSC and HSC board examinations.

15-Apr-2026 (In Civil Law)
Do I need to get a gazette if I want to change my name from FIRST NAME - LAST NAME to FIRST NAME - FATHER NAME - LAST NAME. Plz note I have my name in the form of FIRST NAME - FATHER NAME - LAST NAME in all govt documents. Please note that I have passed my SSC and HSC in 2021 and 2023 respectively. Plz let me know if any other documents can be helpful

if you want to change the name in marksheet then gazette is not required. you can show your aadhar card and birth certificate to get the name in that format. You need to write a letter to the education board and the school to get the name change. if they do not take any action then you need to go to court for the order

Since your government IDs (Aadhar, PAN, etc.) already reflect your desired name format (FIRST NAME - FATHER NAME - LAST NAME), you have a strong base. However, to change the name on your SSC and HSC certificates, most education boards strictly require a Central or State Gazette Notification. Recommended Legal Process: Affidavit: Create a name change affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper stating the reason for the addition of your father's name. Newspaper Publication: Publish a short advertisement regarding your name change in two newspapers (one local vernacular and one English). Gazette Application: Submit these documents along with your ID proofs to the Department of Publication. Board Application: Once the Gazette is published, apply to your respective SSC/HSC Board for a corrected marksheet using the Gazette copy as primary evidence. Helpful Documents for the Process: Original SSC and HSC marksheets. Aadhar Card/PAN Card (with the correct name). Recent passport-sized photographs. Copy of the newspaper advertisements. Getting a Gazette now will prevent legal hurdles during future passport applications, visa processing, or government job documentation.

As per your query, if all your Government documents already contain your name in the format of FIRST NAME – FATHER NAME – LAST NAME, then generally Gazette publication may not be required. However, if your SSC/HSC marksheets or certificates contain a different name format and you now want all records to match officially, then Gazette notification and affidavit procedure may be advisable for future legal clarity. Helpful documents: • Aadhaar Card • PAN Card • Passport (if available) • Birth Certificate • SSC & HSC Marksheets • School Leaving Certificate • Any Govt ID showing the correct name format Since you passed SSC in 2021 and HSC in 2023, correction procedure may also depend on Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) rules and whether it is treated as “name correction” or “name change”. For proper legal guidance and future safety in official records, document verification is recommended before proceeding. — Adv. Zakirhusen A. Sabugar
