My College is got giving my original documents back

24-Apr-2026 (In Civil Law)
I have taken Admission in my college in 2023-24 batch in (DMLT 2 Year diploma course) whose 1st year exam held in August 2025 and results came in 2026 febuary in which I got failed. Now I don't want to continue my study further from that college and want to cancel my addmission. My original documents are submitted in college and when I am asking them to give back they are saying that pay next year fees then only we will give that otherwise they will not give me back. So what should I do.

Dear It is completely illegal for the college to withhold your original documents and demand fees for an academic year you do not intend to pursue. As per the strict guidelines laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and AICTE, no educational institution can retain a student's original certificates under any circumstances. Furthermore, forcing a student to pay fees for un-attended semesters constitutes an unfair trade practice. Steps you should take: 1. Send a formal, strongly-worded legal notice to the college principal and management through an advocate, demanding the immediate return of your documents. 2. if they fail to comply, you can file a complaint before the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice, seeking the return of your documents and compensation for harassment. 3. You can also register a grievance on the UGC or AICTE online portal against the institution. 4. police complaint for wrongful retention and criminal breach of trust can be filed. I strongly advise engaging an advocate to dispatch the legal notice immediately.
