Membership denied despite being eligible.
31-Jan-2025 (In Civil Law)
I am eligible for a society's membership, as an associate member, and yet the society is denying me membership and has influenced the owner, my blood relative, to not recommend me as member. I am staying alone. How can I get membership or will I never get membership, to exercise my rights?
Under Section 22(2) of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960, an associate member is eligible for membership with the owner's written consent. If a society unjustly denies membership, you may file a complaint before the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies under Section 23 for grievance redressal. If coercion was used to influence the owner, legal recourse for undue influence under relevant provisions may apply. A written appeal to the cooperative authority can ensure the protection of your rights.
